Local rapper wounded in Atlantic City shooting now charged

  • News
An Atlantic City rapper wounded in a shooting last month is now charged with weapons offenses and other crimes. Djza Chase, 21,
was found wounded in the 1100 block of Brigantine Boulevard at about 12:45 a.m. Aug. 28. Chase, who released an album of music online last year as Camaro Chase, had recently been on peace walks through the neighborhoods, said Jeffree Fauntleroy II, who led the walks for his new group #loveAC. "He's a good kid trying to change his life," Fauntleroy said at the time. But Chase may not have fully escaped his past, according to the investigations by Sgt. Joseph Iacovone and Detective Innocenzo Visceglia, both of the city's Violent Crimes Unit. Chase allegedly was in possession of a stolen handgun and fired it during the gunfire exchange in which he was wounded. The gun was recovered Aug. 31. “(A person) can't change overnight. It's a process especially when you come from this city,” Fauntleroy said Friday, after learning of the charges. “It's hard to see better days and do better things when you’re under this dark cloud.” Chase was released on $80,000 bail. He was previously in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in June on robbery and weapons offenses. He was freed on bail at that time, which had been set at $75,000, records show. Police are still seeking the suspect who shot Chase. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-347-5788. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
