14-year-old Upper Township girl struck crossing road to school bus

  • News
A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was struck by a car walking to her school bus in Upper Township, police said. State Police are investigating after the girls was struck as she crossed U.S. 9 from West Ocean Avenue on her way to board the bus at about 7:15 a.m. The bus was stopped in the northbound lane with its stop sign extended and flashing red lights to stop traffic, when a 17-year-old male heading south in a 1999 Toyota Corolla failed to stop and struck the victim, according to a preliminary investigation by troopers from the Woodbine Station. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Trauma Center, police said. From there, she was transported to Cooper Medical Trauma Center in Camden for further treatment. The driver and his 15-year-old female passenger were not injured.
No names have been released due to the ages of those involved. The New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office are actively investigating. No summonses or criminal charges have been issued at this time.
