Man shot and killed in Atlantic City on Mother's Day

  • News
A man was shot and killed in Atlantic City's Back Maryland section Sunday afternoon, police said. Keith Cundiff, 32, a local rapper known as K-Miz, was the victim, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Monday,
hours after an arrest was made. "This is the third homicide in the Maryland Avenue neighborhood in the past 14 days," Tyner said Sunday night. "I am appalled at the callous disregard for human life. I urge every resident to work cooperatively with law enforcement, the clergy and community leaders to end this senseless violence and obtain justice for those families left behind to pick up the pieces." Atlantic City Council President Marty Small said he spent more than an hour with the 32-year-old victim's family, and spoke with investigators. The man leaves behind three children, he said. "I find it most disturbing to hear another young person lost their life today in the Second Ward of the city," City Councilman Frank Gilliam said. "It is extremely hard to fathom how a mother would feel losing their child on Mother's Day." Small accused Gilliam's comments of being political, since Small is in the Second Ward. "I think it's extremely disingenuous that Frank Gilliam would play politics when someone had their life taken," Small said. Gilliam did not immediately respond. But Gilliam said Small "should not take everything so personal." "There is a life lost, and I don't have time to be political when someone's mother is mourning on Mother's Day," he said. The two are running against one another for mayor in the Democratic primary. The city's ShotSpotter audio gunshot detection system picked up five shots Sunday afternoon. The system did not alert police, but the shots were heard during a playback, police sources told BreakingAC. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-347-5766 or the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
