Arkansas man was allegedly drunk when he fled Hamilton crash

  • News
An Arkansas man was arrested after he allegedly fled a Hamilton Township crash while drunk. Steven Stewart was found hiding in brush after he flipped his car four times, and then ran from the scene into the woods, police said. Shantel Allmond, 49, of Mays Landing, was driving south on Cologne Avenue at 7:45 p.m., when her 2010 Acura was rear-ended by Stewart’s 2008 Toyota Corolla, according to the report. The impact caused Allmond’s car to spin, finally stopping on Lombard Avenue. She and her passenger had minor injuries, and were evaluated at the scene. Stewart’s passenger also had minor injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus in Galloway Township. But Stewart, who was not injured, ran from the scene into the woods, police said. K-9 Sgt. Christopher Robell and partner, Kota, tracked him down and Stewart surrendered, according to the report. Stewart was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and hindering apprehension. He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on an unrelated contempt of court warrant.
