A public memorial will be held for state Sen. Jim Whelan on Thursday, Sept. 14, his office announced Thursday. Whelan, who served as a City Councilman and mayor of the city, will be honored at Boardwalk Hall with a receiving line from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a service from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Speakers will include state and local elected officials; business, sports and local university leaders, as well as close friends of Whelan. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Stockton University Foundation with "In Memory of Jim Whelan" written in the note section. Donations may also be made online here or to a charity of the giver's choice. Anyone who wishes to RSVP or post a favorite picture with Whelan may go to the Facebook event page.
