Pleasantville friends paying it forward with Atlantic City homeless event

  • News
Friends Jason Smart-El and James Pressley decided they wanted to do something positive for the community. “(We wanted) to be able to bring a positive light to Atlantic City,” said Smart-El, a Pleasantville native who lives in Atlantic City. The result was Community Day Feeding the Homeless and Less Fortunate, set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. It will provide a hot meal for those who need it as well as introducing the services of the newly opened Turning Point Day Center, which offers help six days a week at 1717 Bishop Richard Allen Ave. in Atlantic City. “Over the past few months, Jason and I have been brainstorming on what we can do to possibly give back to the community,” Pressley said. “One of our goals was to sponsor a day feeding the homeless and those that often face unnecessary judgment or, in most cases, are forgotten about.” The men’s requests weren’t ignored either. The two have been overwhelmed by the community outpouring of donations of both food and time. “It’s not just about (us),” Pressley said. “It’s a community effort.” The two are taking only donations of food, not money. “Without the help of our peers within the community willing to volunteer and the many donations we received, this would not be possible,” Smart-El said. Anyone who wants to donate food or time can email Smart-El at uniquelyrareclothing@gmail.com
or Pressley at jamespressley@live.com.
