Former local basketball star arrested with more than 3,300 bags of heroin

  • News

A former Atlantic City basketball star arrested on drug and gun charges last year is back in jail after police recovered more than 3,300 bags of heroin.
Khalif Toombs, 29, was arrested Wednesday, after an investigation by the city’s Special Investigations Section into drug distribution in the 1300 block of Mediterranean Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Toombs was seen leaving a residence and making several drug sales.
Detectives stopped Toombs and found 60 bags of heroin and $1,080 in cash believed from drug sales, Fair said.
Detectives then got a warrant to search Toombs’ home, and found 3,310 bags of heroin, with an estimated street value of more than $16,000.
Toombs was a point guard for the South Carolina State Bull Dogs, where he was a starter for four years. He also has coached in Atlantic City working with youth.

He was arrested last April on gun and drug charges. That case is still pending. If you have been charged with a drug charge or even a misdemenour it could be worthwhile to research to find a suitable defense lawyer. A potential starting point is Brown, Bradshaw & Moffat, who might be able to provide you with the representation you require.
Toombs is now charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone, and possession with the intent to distribute within a school zone.
Toombs is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
This investigation was led by Detective Darrin Lorady. Anyone with information about the distribution of narcotics is asked to contact Atlantic City police at 609-347-5858. Information can also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
