An allegedly drunk Atlantic City man was arrested Saturday after leaving the scene of an accident with his 4-year-old child in the car.
A woman was injured in the crash at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Bacharach boulevards, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
The 28-year-old Galloway Township woman told Officer Joseph Bereheiko that she tried to follow the vehicle that sped away, but she instead pulled over to call police.
The suspect’s vehicle was seen entering the Atlantic City Connector traveling toward Brigantine, according to the police report.
A short time later, Officers Michael Campbell and Richard DeLeon stopped the suspect vehicle as it entered Brigantine.
The vehicle had extensive front end damage, was missing the front passenger side tire and was driving on the rim, Fair said.
The driver, Miki Morillo, was not injured and was later arrested. His child, who was in the back seat, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus for evaluation.
The woman was also taken to the Atlantic City hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Morillo is charged with assault by auto while under the influence of alcohol, endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated, along with several motor vehicle summonses.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Morillo was released from prison last June after serving about 13 months of a seven-year drug sentence, records show. He did less than eight months in prison after 202 days in jail, records show.
