Atlantic City man charged with kidnapping in gunpoint robbery of two men

  • News
An Atlantic City man was arrested Thursday on charges of kidnapping and other offenses after he allegedly robbed two men at gunpoint last week. Officers had responded to the 1100 block of Adriatic Avenue at 12:19 p.m. March 27, after two men reported that an armed man approached them in their car at South Carolina and Baltic avenues. He then forced them at gunpoint to drive to the 1100 block of Adriatic, where they were each able to escape separately, according to an investigation by Detectives Ann McGlynn and Deborah Gilmore. One of the men's cell phones was stolen during the drive. A man matching the suspect’s description was seen by Officers Bryan Fleming and Gabriel Chevere, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. But as they approached the man, later identified as Daniele Tuitt, ignored their comments to stop, then threw a handgun in the bushes and ran, according to the report. Chevere chased Tuitt, while Fleming stopped to secure the loaded handgun, Fair said. Chevere was injured climbing a fence and Tuitt got away. Chevere was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, where he was treated for his injuries and released. A second handgun was found in the 400 block of South Carolina Avenue. Officers Daniel Arra and Christian Ivanov arrested Tuitt on Thursday at Ohio and Atlantic avenues, Fair said. Tuitt, 19, was charged with kidnapping, robbery, burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and resisting arrest. Tuitt is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766 or Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
