The family of an Atlantic City native lost to violence is hoping to create an annual game that will capture his spirit and raise funds for the son he left behind.
The first annual Oskii's World Charity Football Event will honor Demond Cottman, who was known to his friends as Oskii.
Cottman was a 21-year-old new father and husband when he was
killed in a shooting outside Hamilton Mall early Nov. 25, 2016, the day after Thanksgiving.
No one has been arrested in that shooting, which also wounded Cottman's older brother, Shadi Cottman.
Now, eldest brother Rob Cottman is looking to have an annual flag football game that will honor his baby brother's love of sports, teamwork and fun.
The event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. July 14 atÂ
Oscar McClinton Waterfront Park. But spots are already filling up for the one-round elimination that will include four or eight teams, depending upon interest. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
The cost is $35 per player, which will benefit his son, Ayyub, who will turn 2 in May.
Demond Cottman and his father had plans for his baby boy. When Ayyub was born May 9, the two men were determined there wouldn't be the financial struggles they went through when Cottman was going to college. "We promised we were going to get it right for his son," Demond Tally recalled. Then, Cot
Sponsors include SwapzAC, Coco's Chicken & Waffles and the A.C. Boxing Hall of Fame.
Music will be by
