In the end, Antonia Miles proved to be a fighter.
The 4-year-old Galloway girl who battled an aggressive brain tumor died Saturday morning, her mother announced on a Facebook page dedicated to the girl’s struggle.
“Sweet Antonia Gabriella broke out of the body that she was trapped in for a year and a half,” a heartbroken Lisa Jackson wrote on the newly tiled “Forever Antonia” page.
At 11:47 a.m. “I held my bug while she took her last breath,” Jackson wrote. “She grabbed my hand and squeezed, and I told her to come out and play.”
But it was days after her condition began deteriorating and her mother began to plan for her death.

“You will not believe this,” Jackson wrote late Friday. “Antonia’s a true WARRIOR. She's still here with us, waking up and holding my hand and holding me. She's had a couple close calls but pushed through, with the gurgling in her lungs.”
She wrote later that it was like her little girl didn’t want to leave her, and that Jackson didn’t want to let her daughter go.
Antonia suffered from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG, a rare and inoperable condition.
