Pleasantville man indicted in sexual assaults on sisters 8 and 9

  • News

A Pleasantville man with a history of sexually abusing children was indicted this morning in assaults on two girls ages 8 and 9.
Sherron Scott, 32, faces several charges, including three counts of first-degree aggravated assault on the two girls while he was dating their mother last year.
Scott was arrested in January, and ordered held pending trial by Superior Court Judge Benjamin Poldonick.
An investigation began in July, after the girls told their father, who brought them to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
They each told of separate instances just after they got out of the shower, and said the assaults included Scott penetrating them with his fingers.

“What’s more disturbing, or just as disturbing, and somewhat unsettling, is that the defendant has prior convictions for a similar act,” Poldonick said during the detention hearing.
In 2012, Scott was indicted for sexual assault of a victim ages 13 to 15 years old in Camden County Superior Court, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Poldonick noted that such a long incarceration for a first-time crime of the third degree indicated that there was more to the charge.
It is not clear how long Scott actually served, but two years later he was charged again.
This time, out of Atlantic County, he was indicted on first-degree aggravated sexual assault. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child cruelty and neglect, and was sentenced to 256 days in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, and three years’ probation.
Because he pled to much lesser charges, he was not required to register under Megan's Law.
