  • News

A Pleasantville man was arrested after he allegedly ran from police and threw a handgun. Steven Young Jr., who was wanted on warrants, was spotted by Atlantic City Officers Valmir Loga and Jeffrey Hannon at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday at South Carolina and Baltic avenues, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The two recognized him as being wanted on warrants, Fair said. As the officers got out of their car and went to stop Young, he started to walk away, and then ran as the ordered him to stop, according to the report. As they chased Young, he allegedly took a handgun from his waistband and threw it to the ground. Hannon stopped to pick up the gun, which was loaded, Fair said. Loga continued to chase Young, who tried to hide between cars in a nearby parking lot, Fair said. Loga found Young and took him into custody without further incident with assistance from Officer Christian Ivanov, according to the report. Young, 26, of Pleasantville, was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon and tampering with evidence. He was also wanted on two contempt of court warrants.

Young was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
