Atlantic City man wounded in expressway shootout pleads guilty in drug and weapons cases

  • News
An Atlantic City man involved in a fatal gunfight on the Atlantic City Expressway and then arrested for running a heroin-distribution facility out of Atlantic City has pleaded guilty in both cases. Yahshaun Stukes-Williams, 20, faces five years in prison under the plea agreement, with 3½ years before he is eligible for parole, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Tuesday. Stukes-Williams was shot in the head during the Aug. 29, 2016 shootout, which allegedly started when he and Rosemund Octavius both had hearings that day in separate courtrooms inside the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse in Mays Landing. A few hours later, Octavius was dead inside a silver Nissan Maxima on the Garden State Parkway near milepost 39 north. But the driver, Anthony Hicks, would tell investigators the shooting happened on the expressway. Around the same time, a bullet-riddled white Ford Expedition sped into the Wawa on the Airport Circle in Egg Harbor Township. Stukes-Williams was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. His father, Shaun Stukes, was behind the wheel, also wounded. Shot in the back seat were Lenardo Caro and a 16-year-old boy. Stukes-Williams pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun in that case. Stukes-Williams was originally released on bail in that case, which was before bail reform would have required a detention hearing. But he was ordered held this past December, after he and his cousin were charged with running a heroin-distribution facility
in Atlantic City. He also pleaded guilty to several charges in that case, including tampering with evidence. Stukes-Williams is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 31 before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor.
