Cape May man charged in robbery of Upper Township bank

  • News
A Cape May man is charged with robbing a bank after State Police said social media helped lead them to the suspect. Joseph Crandley, 39, is now in the Cape May County jail on robbery and theft charges. Crandley allegedly entered the TD Bank in Upper Township at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, and handed the teller a small, burlap bag with a note attached demanding a specific amount of cash, police said. The teller turned over the money and the man left the bank in a sedan. State Police asked for the public's help identifying the man and within an hour of posting a photo from surveillance video, they were able to positively identify him, police said. Troopers and officers from the Lower Township Police Department worked together to locate Crandley later that day in the township, where he was arrested without incident, police said. "This was a great job by our Troopers from Woodbine Station, Troop “A” CIO, officers from Lower Township, and a great job by all of you who assisted us by providing tips," State Police said.
