Sheriff's officer pleads not guilty in gun, text threat case

  • News
An Atlantic County sheriff's officer jailed for allegedly being armed while texting threats to his girlfriend pleaded not guilty Tuesday. Daniel Ginsburg, 44, of Galloway Township, allegedly told the woman "I will kill you," while driving around. When he was arrested, he had two Glock semi-automatic handguns in his trunk, according to the complaint. His attorney previously said Ginsburg was an addict who had relapsed after decades clean. The victim, whose name has not been released due to the nature of the offense, never got a permanent restraining order and is not in fear of the defendant, according to information previously said in court. The state has offered a plea deal that would sentence Ginsburg to five years in prison with 3½ years of parole ineligibility. He had not heard the offer until he appeared before Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury via video from the Cape May County jail, where he is being held pending outcome of the case. He could not be kept in Atlantic County due to his employment. The defense plans to file a motion for a Graves waiver, which would keep Ginsburg from being subject to a harsher penalty due to the gun charge. He is due back in court Aug. 23.
