Pleasantville man arrested after assault leaves woman semi-conscious

  • News

UPDATE:

A Pleasantville man is in jail after he allegedly assaulted a woman, leaving her semi-conscious inside her Pleasantville home.
Marc Evangelista is accused of using a rope and a hammer handle with razor blades in the attack.
Police were called to the home on the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue at 3:38 p.m. Tuesday, to check on the welfare of a woman who may have been assaulted, Capt. Matt Hartman said.
After the woman could not be reached any other way, police forced their way into the home and found the woman on the floor, semi-conscious, Hartman said.
The woman, who had a dating relationship with her alleged attacker, said Evangelista assaulted her and left.
She was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of her injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.
At about 8 p.m., police got a call from neighbors saying Evangelista had entered their home unlawfully and was still in the area, Hartman said.
After a thorough check of the area, Evangelista was located and taken into custody without incident. He was then taken to the Pleasantville Police Department for processing and sent to the Atlanic CountyJustice Facility.
Evangelista, 42, was charged with burglary, aggravated assault (domestic), unlawful possession of weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Evangelista was arrested May 26, in Galloway Township on charges of burglary, theft and obstructing the administration of the law, Galloway police said at the time.
