Three charged in Atlantic City shooting that wounded two

The Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit concluded a three week long investigation into the shooting of two males that occurred on March 1, 2017. As a result, three suspects have been arrested and one handgun recovered.
At 4:20 am, patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter Alert and multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 2500 block of Pacific Avenue. Officers arrived to find two males who had sustained gunshot wounds. Bilal Freeman, a 32 year old male from Atlantic City, and Emanuel Williams, a 25 year old male from Atlantic City, were transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit led to criminal charges being filed against Iree Jones, Shawn Smith, and Abdul Sanderlin.
On March 22, 2017, detectives conducted a surveillance operation at which time they observed Jones enter a motel room at the Roadway Inn in Atlantic City. Jones was taken into custody without incident. Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the motel room. Detectives located a loaded handgun inside the room that had been reported stolen from Northfield in January 2017.

Today at 1:35 am, Trooper Steven Hodge, of the New Jersey State Police, conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 30 in Absecon. Shawn Smith and Abdul Sanderlin were occupants of the vehicle and were arrested. Smith and Sanderlin face additional narcotics charges after heroin and cocaine were found in the vehicle.

ARRESTED: Iree Jones, a 23 year old male from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possess of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy.

ARRESTED: Shawn Smith, a 24 year old male from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possess of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and conspiracy.

ARRESTED: Abdul Sanderlin, a 23 year old male from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possess of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and conspiracy.

All three males were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
