Pleasantville firefighters honored for rescuing resident injured in fire

Peter Bowker, and Firefighters Stan Kolbe and Gary Guerra were given the 2018 Valor Award by the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey for the Jan. 30, 2017, from the home in the 1500 block of Sixth Avenue. https://breakingac.com/resident-suffers-severe-injuries-in-pleasantville-fire/ Upon arrival, the three-story home had heavy flames, according to reports at the time. “Aggressive deployment of attack hose lines commenced as those firefighters assigned to the ladder truck entered the burning house to begin a primary search,” according to the report read at the award ceremony. The battalion chief discovered that the resident was possibly trapped in the basement. Bowker conducted a search of the basement, using both his training and a thermal imaging camera find him. With help from Guerra and Kolbe, Bowker was able to get the unnamed resident out. The victim eventually was treated at the Crozer-Chester Burn Center in Pennsylvania for his injuries. Bowker accepted the award saying it was a group effort. “From the guys who supply the water to the engine operator to the ladder guys,” hes aid. “It’s not just the guys who get hands on, it’s everyone on the job that makes it possible to accomplish this.”
