Atlantic City man arrested on burglary and theft charges out of Margate

  • News
An Atlantic City man was arrested on burglary and theft charges Sunday, after three Margate residents reported separate incidents with the suspect in a short period of time. Police were called to Gladstone Avenue at 6:38 p.m., by a resident who reported a burglary in progress, police said. The resident was able to describe the suspect, and told the dispatcher that the man ran from her home. While officers were searching the area, they received another call of a man matching the suspect's description entering an open garage on Fulton Avenue, and trying to steal a bicycle, according to the report. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who then let go of the bike and once again ran, police said. A third resident then flagged down a bicycle officer on Colmar Circle, saying the suspect was on the front porch of her home trying to break in, according to the report. The woman told the officer she then saw the suspect trying to break into her vehicle parked outside. She told the officer she hit the panic alarm on her car, which caused the man to run.
Margate police then set up a perimeter where they believed the suspect may be hiding, and called Atlantic City police to assist. K-9 Officer Marinela Pali and her partner, Roxy, along with Sgt. George Adams responded. The suspect was fount a short time later hiding in some bushes nearby and he was taken into custody without resistance, police said. Brahin Shariff Jones, 30, is charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft. During a search of the area the following morning, officers found a backpack Jones was carrying that contained proceeds from the initial burglary, along with heroin and burglary tools, police said. Jones is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility with further charges pending.
