Food Banks Need Donations for COVID-19 Response

  • Covid 19
The Community Food Bank of New Jersey Southern Branch works year-round to fill the void that is seen with food insecurity in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. The three counties are among the top five of hungriest in the state. With the ongoing effects of the state and local response to the coronavirus, spokeswoman Nicole Williams says the food bank is expecting an even greater need as more and more people are losing their jobs and those already struggling are unable to stock up. "We really just need people to pitch in however they can if they are able to help so that we can ramp up our operations in response to the crisis." The CFBNJ is not accepting volunteers at this time to better protect the health and safety of the community, but what they really need is funding to help support the plans in place to help keep food on the tables of families hit hard during this time. In response to the pandemic, Williams says they are encouraging the 300 agency partners in the South Jersey area to extend operating hours whenever possible and remove item limits so they can give out more supplies that can be used at a later date. They are also building emergency meal kits that can sustain a family for several days, and they are working on ways to supplement meals for students who are missing out on in-school food programs while classes are not in session. The video below chronicles the job that the food bank undertakes preparing for the busy holiday season, but as Williams pointed out to me today, the need is always great and will continue to grow as we see this situation through. One dollar can provide three meals, so every donated dollar counts. Please watch the video to learn more about the tremendous work they do at the CFBNJ and click
here if you would like to donate or if you or someone you know could use their help. #MakeADifference
