An unconscious man was rescued from a burning car Saturday, after a fiery two-vehicle crash in Atlantic City.
Police body camera footage shows the dramatic rescue as two officers and a TriCare Medical Transportation EMT pull the 29-year-old city man from the engulfed vehicle.
The crash happened at 3:48 a.m. on Route 30 eastbound by milepost 55.6, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Before the officers arrived, fishermen Jeramie Cassilis and Jeffrey Bordley tried to get the man out of the vehicle, but were stopped by the flames.
They were able to cut the man's seat belt, which was instrumental in the rescue, Fair said.
Video shows Officers Chris Massey and Michael Kedziora, along with TriCare EMT Matthew Brown pull the unconscious man from the vehicle.
"My man," one officer is heard yelling to the man inside.
"Pull him out, pull him out," he is then heard saying after the door is opened.
The man is then dragged away from the burning vehicle.
The man was driving a Hyundai Elantra east on Route 30, when he left the road for an unknown reason, driving onto an embankment that sent the vehicle airborne for about 50 feet, according to an investigation by Officers Joseph Bereheiko and Eric Wessler.
It then struck concrete pillars and a utility pole head-on, coming to rest in the lane of travel where it was struck by vehicle driven by a 65-year-old Atlantic City man.
Both drivers were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus with serious injuries.
The Atlantic City Fire Department extinguished the fire.
Route 30 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlantic City Police Department's Accident Investigations Section at 609-347-5744. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
