A Philadelphia man is wanted for murder in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend inside an Atlantic City casino hotel room.
Sharon Whaley, 57, was found dead under a sheet inside Room 3419 of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Friday, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC. A knife was lying on top.
Whaley had multiple stab wounds, the detective wrote.
An autopsy is supposed to be completed Monday.
Witnesses said she was staying there with her boyfriend, "Ed."
An investigation found Ed was Frankie E. Lane, 59, who was charged with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose Saturday. He has not been arrested.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Lane is a fugitive Monday. Spokeswoman Donna Weaver did not respond to requests asking why the office waited two days to announce that a murder suspect is being sought, or even that someone had been killed.
Lane and Whaley check into the Hard Rock at about 6:24 p.m. Thursday, according to the affidavit.
At 11:01 the next morning, surveillance shows Lane leaving the room alone with a black and gray bag.
When he is seen walking into the Atlantic City Bus Terminal at 11:58 a.m., he is without the bag, the affidavit states.
That bag was later found in a trash can. Inside, police found the white shirt Lane was seen wearing when they check in. This time, it had apparent blood stains.
The Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating along with Atlantic City police.
