  • News

An allegedly drunken driver from Florida and his passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in a Galloway Township crash Thursday.
Guardeluis Lopez-Santiago was heading east on Route 30 when Louis Sacco turned left in front of him at Cologne Avenue, and the vehicles crashed, Lt. Christopher McGinty said.
Sacco, 51, of Vineland, was issued a summons for failure to yield to oncoming traffic at an intersection.
Lopez-Santiago, 32, of Dover, Florida, was found to be intoxicated at the time of the crash and his license was suspended, McGinty said.
Lopez-Santiago and his passenger, Dorote Martinez-Hernandez, suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. Their conditions were not known.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, two counts of assault by auto, on count of aggravated assault and two counts of causing serious bodily injury while driving while suspended. He was also issued several motor vehicle summonses.
Sacco suffered moderate injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township.
The crash closed sections of the road for about two hours.
Patrolmen Steve Garrison and Nicholas Stewart are investigating.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Garrison at 609-652-3705, ext. 5090 or Stewart at 609-652-3705, ext. 5107.
