A Pennsylvania man charged with threatening to kill hospital staff in July is now in the Cape May County jail after he allegedly fled Cape May County with his young children.
Shane Delano was finally apprehended more than 100 miles away in Rahway, after a minor motor vehicle crash. All three children were recovered safely.
Kristen Delano called police Friday, saying her husband drove off from Lincoln Boulevard in Lower Township with their children, all younger than 5, police said. She said he was possibly in possession of a handgun.
The woman told police Shane Delano was in a black Chevrolet Tahoe with a Pennsylvania license plate.
The vehicle was located on Seashore Road, where police tried to stop it. But the driver refused and the pursuit went from Breakwater Road onto the Garden State Parkway, according to the report.
The pursuit was terminated after police decided it was too dangerous both for the children inside and other drivers.
Lower Township police along with the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and State Police Missing Persons Unit were able to track the vehicle remotely.
Shane Delano was found in Rahway, Union County, police said.
He was taken into custody after a minor crash. The children were recovered safely by Rahway police officers.
Shane Delano, 38, of Pottstown, Pa., was taken to the Lower Township Police Department, where he was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, assault by auto and eluding.
He was not found in possession of a gun, but Kristen Delano was found with a loaded handgun before she was taken to the Police Department to give a statement.
She as charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and released on a summons.
Shane Delano has a pending court date Tuesday in Montgomery County, Pa., court record shows.
He was arrested by Robeson Township, Montgomery County police July 14, following a one-vehicle crash there, according to a release by township police.
West Reading police responded to the Reading Hospital to assist hospital security, and learned that Delano had threatened to kill hospital staff members, their families and pets, according to the report.
He also allegedly threatened emergency personnel that responded to the scene.
Delano refused to submit to a blood test to confirm he was under the influence of narcotics.
Berks County sheriff's officers assisted in transporting Delano to county's Central Processing Center, where he was charged with terroristic threats, driving under the influence, disorderly conduct and driving vehicle at an unsafe speed.
His bail was set at $100,000, which was posted, according to the records.
