Woman arrested in Hammonton crash that killed Mays Landing man

  • News

A Trenton woman was arrested on vehicular homicide and death by auto charges in connection to a Hammonton crash that killed a Mays Landing man.

Taquaysha Bell, 29, was heading west on the White Horse Pike just after 11 p.m. June 19, 2020, when she crossed into the eastbound lane near Moss Mill Road and struck a car driven by Michael Luko Sr., police said at the time of the crash.

Luko, 53, was heading home from work at the New Jersey Human Services Police Department. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus in Galloway Township, where he was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. the next morning.

Bell’s rear seat passenger, 28-year-old Chanelle Morgan, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, where she underwent surgery, officials said at the time.

Bell was also taken to the hospital for a blood test.

She was originally issued several summonses, including driving under the influence, consumption of alcohol, court records show.

Detectives of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force assisted in the arrest at her Trenton home last Wednesday, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced Wednesday.

Following Bell’s arrest, she was turned over to the detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Hammonton Police Department for processing.

She has been released from the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

NOTE: The Atlantic County Justice Facility cannot release mugshots under an order from the former county prosecutor.
