A Philadelphia man accused of robbing an Egg Harbor Township gas station will stay in jail.
Lamar Morrison, 19, was arrested last Tuesday after he allegedly robbed the Sunoco on Fire Road in the township’s Farmington section, and then fled.
He brandished a handgun at two people and threatened to use it, according to the charges.
While police were chasing him, Morrison discarded a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, the charges state.
He was found with $120 — the exact amount taken from the gas station, the affidavit states.
Morrison lives in Philadelphia where he has a job and helps support his 1-year-old son, his defense attorney told the judge.
But that wasn’t enough to overcome his detention.
Morrison has “a significant juvenile history,” Superior Court Judge Pam D’Arcy noted.
His charges now include certain persons not to possess a weapon.
“His interactions with the legal system did not improve or deter his behavior as an adult,” the judge said. “His criminality is escalating.”
Morrison’s alleged threats to use the handgun “show he poses a serious danger to the community at large,” D’Arcy said.
