Ex-teacher's aide from EHT gets 10 years for sexually assaulting three girls he babysat

  • News

A former teacher's aide was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting three sisters he babysat.

George Getty III, now 30, was arrested last year, after the girls' mother went to police saying her daughters told her of the assaults.

Getty was a friend of the girls' family, and often babysat the three sisters and their two brothers both at his home and at the home of their grandfather, who also lives in the township, according to the affidavit of probable cause previously obtained by BreakingAC.

The girls were 8, 10 and 13 at the time they came forward. Each said they had been molested in some way.

Neither boy reported any abuse. The then-12-year-old said he saw Getty massage his sisters' backs and that the man spent one-on-one time in his bedroom with each of the girls.

The oldest sibling, a boy who was 14 at the time he talked to detectives, said Getty had Barbie dolls, which the boy "attributed to Getty working at a school."

The victims and their families were present at sentencing.

Getty will serve his sentence at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel, after his evaluation there found him to be both compulsive and repetitive.

He also must register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and will remain on parole supervision for life.

Getty is to have no contact with the victims or their families.

He was working as a kindergarten teacher's aide at the Atlantic Christian School at the time, but an investigation never found any children at the school were victims.

Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen immediately notified parents in an October 2021 email.

"To the best of our knowledge, and after speaking with the detective handling his case, none of the minors involved were students from" the school, Oblen wrote. "We are shocked and saddened by this news, as this type of behavior is counter to everything we teach and uphold."

She stressed that background checks are always done and that Getty had no criminal history until his arrest.

He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending his transfer to the Department of Corrections.
