A man and woman were arrested after Atlantic City police found more than 450 bags of heroin during a car stop on Wednesday.
The arrests came a day after the arrests of six people as part of a city police investigation that yielded more than $10,000 in drugs.
Officers Anthony Abrams and Alberto Valles were patrolling the 500 block of Adriatic Avenue, where there had been a shots fired call the night before, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
The officers saw what they believed was a drug sale between two men: one in a car and one on a bike.
Abrams and Valles stopped the car, but the man on the bike fled, according to the report.
Inside the car they found 50 bags of heroin.
The occupants, Kent Whealton and Brittany Rivera were taken into custody, Fair said. While Whealton was being searched, the officers found 406 bags of heroin and more than fiveWhea grams of cocaine.
Whealton, who at first gave officers a fake name, was also found to have a warrant from the Atlantic County Sheriff's Department.
Whealton, 27, of Egg Harbor City, was charged possession of heroin and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute, possession within 500 feet of a park and hindering apprehension.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail.
Rivera, 26, of Millville, was charged with possession of heroin and released on a summons and given a court date.
