Ventnor couple found dead identified

  • News
A couple found dead inside their Ventnor Heights home Wednesday  died in an apparent murder-suicide, according to autopsy reports. But an investigation into the deaths of Marianne Wilson-Allen, 59, and Richard Allen, 60, continues, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said Friday. Wilson-Allen's cause of death has been ruled a homicide. Allen, a retired Atlantic City firefighter, committed suicide, according to the autopsy report. The couple were found inside the North Oxford Avenue home after a note was found taped to the storm door saying, "Call 911."
The couple had been battling health issues, neighbors told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Amy Rosenberg. "He went into the hospital Friday and came back Tuesday," neighbor Joe Hitchner, 82, told Rosenberg. "He had pancreatitis." "I know they each had been very depressed," Hitchner added. Police responded to the home at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators spent hours at the residence, and were seen going to neighbors' homes, knocking on doors. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666 or Ventnor police at 609-822-2101.
