Stafford man admits to string of diesel thefts

A Stafford Towship man pleaded guilty last week to aggravated arson and four counts of theft in connection with a string of diesel fuels thefts that culminated in the explosion of a vehicle set on fire in Egg Harbor Township in 2015. Robert Bailey III, 49, of West Creek, Ocean County, was arrested March 9, 2015. That January, he set fire to a modified mini-bus at the Egg Harbor Township impound lot that had been seized as part of the investigation into the fuel thefts from gas stations in Atlantic, Camden, Morris and Ocean counties. The bus was used to siphon gas from the stations'undrrground tanks, according to the charges. Bailey is expected to be sentenced to seven years in prison with three years of parole ineligibility under the plea agreement. His sentencing is scheduled before Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild on July 14.
