A student was injured when a knife was brought on to a Hamilton Township school bus Tuesday morning, according to a letter the principal sent to parents.
Bus SR13 was carrying Shaner Elementary School students, which has children from preschool to first grade.
"Upon arrival to school, we were made aware that one of the students had brought a knife on the bus," Principal Daniel Cartwright wrote in the letter posted on the school's website. "Several children on Bus SR13 were involved in this incident and an injury was reported."
He said there was one injury reported, but did not give details.
There is an ongoing investigation and there was also a scheduled meeting with the children who were on the bus to review the matter and the school's expectations for behavior, he said.
"Student safety is our highest priority," he said.
He asked parents to talk to their children about the incident and reinforce the "Shaner Smart Shark Habits" of being respectful, responsible, safe and kind.
