Visitors to Atlantic City’s Tanger Outlets The Walk can help make a needy kid’s Christmas better while getting their own shopping done.
Starting at 10 a.m. Black Friday, Atlantic City’s firefighters will have their boots out collecting money for their Toys for Children drive.
The firefighters work with administrators, city officials, church leaders, hospital administrators, the Rescue Mission and local businesses to help identify children in need. All of the money collected is used to buy toys for children in the city.
The drive will be done every weekend leading up to Christmas.The kickoff ends a week of community aid by the firefighters.
On Monday, members helped Councilman Mo Delgado distribute hundreds of turkeys he donated to local residents.
This year, their efforts were aided by the Ducktown Tavern, Vagabond and The Wonder Bar.
Then on Tuesday “Operation Warm” kicked off.
The program, which the International Association of Fire Fighters Union started in 2012, makes sure no child is without a coat for the winter.
Firefighters rely on school counselors and administrators throughout the city to help identify children in need.
Members of Engines 1 and 7, and Ladder 1 began distributing coats to the first round of schools and will continue the effort next week until they have visited every school in the city.
