A man who was offered sex and drugs for money ended up saving a woman from being forced into prostitution.
The unnamed man called police Friday saying a woman needed help, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers Pete Calabrese and Daniel Arra responded to the 2600 block of Pacific Avenue just before 11 p.m.
The caller told them that a man offered to sell him cocaine and offered the services of a woman, according to the report.
But when Corey Martinez left the two alone inside his room on that block, the woman asked the man for help, Fair said.
Believing the woman was in distress, the man called 911 and flagged down the arriving officers, he told police.
During the investigation, the officers learned that Martinez had sexually assaulted the 23-year-old Pleasantville woman and was forcing her into prostitution, Fair said.
Martinez was arrested without incident.
Officers Kevin Dever and Huan Le and detectives of the Street Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.
Martinez, 30, of Atlantic City, is charged with sexual assault, simple assault, criminal restrain, promoting prostitution and refusal to be fingerprinted.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
