Detention hearing set for man accused of killing brother in A.C. casino-hotel room

  • News

A Philadelphia man charged with killing his brother inside an Atlantic City casino hotel room is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
John Villante, 38, is accused in the fatal attack May 28, inside an 11th floor room at Harrah's Atlantic City.
There were "significant amounts of blood" on him and in the room when police responded shortly after 4 p.m.
Joseph Villante, 32, was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where it was found that his injuries were inconsistent with the original call of a possible suicide, according to the Atlantic City police report obtained by BreakingAC.
The Villantes and a woman were staying in the room, which was registered to the unnamed woman.
John Villante told police only the two were inside the room at the time, and that the younger man had been inside the bathroom when there was a loud noise.
But there was no blood in the bathroom.
John Villante had a swollen right hand and injuries to his hands and elbow, but told police any blood on him was from trying to help his brother, according to the affidavit.
An autopsy found Joseph Villante had multiple injuries, including blunt-force trauma, neck compression, defensive wounds to his hands and superficial stab wounds to his neck.
John Villante was arrested in Philadelphia on May 30, and had been in custody there until he was extradited Friday.
He is now in Atlantic County awaiting a detention hearing set for Tuesday morning.
