Galloway man allegedly fled car stop with loaded handgun

A Galloway Township man was arrested after fleeing a car stop in Atlantic City with a gun, police said.Jonathan Ewing was stopped by Detective Christopher Smith and Officer Daniel Arra just after 3 p.m. Thursday after he disregarded several red lights, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.After stopping, Ewing got out of the car, and refused commands to come back, according to the report.After a chase, the officers caught Ewing, who had a loaded handgun in his waistband, along with numerous prescription pills and a digital scale commonly used to weigh narcotics, Fair said. The handgun had been reported stolen from Berkley Township, Ocean County.Ewing, 21, is charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Special Investigations Section at 609-347-5858.Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.

Note: The Atlantic County Justice Facility no longer provides mugshots to the media, citing the Atlantic County prosecutor’s order. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s part of the Attorney General’s Guidelines. There is no such guideline, according to the Attorney General’s Office, but they have told these offices for years that they should not release any photos that appear to be mugshots.
