Atlantic City man cleared in threat to EHT woman, assault on brother

  • News

Charges have been dismissed against an Atlantic City man indicted in 2019 on allegations of assault and terroristic threats.

Ronald Zurner was accused of threatening an Egg Harbor Township woman and beating her brother with a baseball bat, according to a press release put out June 3, 2019 by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Four of the five charges involved Daniel Mehegan, who later was the defendant in a cross complaint alleging assault and kidnapping. But both sides agreed not to pursue charges against the other, according to an order to dismiss filed by the Prosecutor’s Office on Oct. 28 of this year.

The filing provided to BreakingAC also says that the remaining count of terroristic threats against Mehegan’s sister, Lauren Mehegan, was deemed not credible in Family Court. A final restraining order was denied in the case.

Representatives for Zurner questioned why his charges were made public while Daniel Mehegan’s were not. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, then under Damon Tyner, did not put out any public releases about the subsequent case.

The dismissal was also not announced by the office, now under acting Prosecutor Cary Shill.
