Lena Mae Cottman

  • Obituaries

Lena Mae Cottman, 68, was born in Somers Point on Feb. 17, 1953, to Willie Mae Cottman and Israel Spencer Cottman.

Lena departed this life at home Jan. 14, 2022, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and friends.

Lena last worked as a child care provider because she enjoyed caring for children. She also worked housekeeping at Castle Casino & Hotel in her younger years.

Lena always opened her home to family and friends throughout the years in their time of need. She loved her family right or wrong. She was a very loving, funny, kind and caring person devoted to her family.

She’s also known for her family friend chicken (ask around!). Lena was a dedicated Christian woman of faith who knew and loved the Lord. She has many awards over the years for her annual reading of the Bible.

She was a happy, vibrant, God-fearing woman who barely could say no to anyone and was a pillar of the Back Maryland area for 40-plus years.

Lena is survived by four children (and their spouses): Kenneth Franklin (April), Leann and Sabrina (Zakee) Cottman, Tara. Eight grandchildren: Monet, Brianna, Leanna, Lorenzo, Islam, Lil Frank, Tyara and Tajhir. Her great-grandchild Artemis. Sisters Tillia Mae Sonera, Bertha Mae Cottman (James), Mary Lily, Gloria Jones and Vernae Cottman, and brother Israel Cottman.

She also leaves behind two loving friends and neighbors for 35-plus years, Pastor Pauline Norwood and Stacey Washington, along with a host of many other family and friends who cherished her dearly.
