14-year-old charged with attempted murder in Atlantic City shooting

  • News

A teen wanted for attempted murder in an Atlantic City shooting is now in custody.

The 14-year-old, whose name is not being released due to his age, was arrested Friday, after running from police on the first block of South Florida Avenue, according to the report.

It was the same place the shooting happened nearly two weeks earlier, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

Police were called to the street at 9:33 p.m. May 31, for the report of a man shot.

Officers found 29-year-old man had been shot multiple times, according to the report.

The city man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment.

An investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit led to charges against the teen.

Detective Christopher Dodson then saw the suspect in group of males at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aristizabal said.

The teen and two other men ran. Dodson and Sgt. Garry Stowe arrested the suspect after a short foot chase, the report states.

A loaded handgun fitted with a high-capacity magazine was found in the area, Aristizabal said. It did not have a serial number, which is referred to as a "ghost gun," because it is difficult to trace.

The other two men wound up charged with drug offenses.

Genesis Silva, 24, was found with 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale with white powdery residue and $2,891 in money believed to be proceeds from drug sales, Aristizabal said.

Juan Antigua-Silva, 23, allegedly had 24 grams of suspected heroin, four grams of suspected crack cocaine and a digital scale.

The two men were released on summonses.

The teen was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He was taken to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.

Nothing was previously made public about the shooting.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
