An Egg Harbor Township woman accused of robbing a patron at the Tropicana Atlantic City was ordered held in jail Friday.
Ebonaye Adams, 21, is accused of grabbing casino chips and striking the victim on the neck, according to information shared during her detention hearing.
Adams was already on pretrial intervention for a prior criminal charge at the time of her most recent arrest. PTI allows certain first-time offenders to avoid prosecution by completing a program. The case she was admitted into the program for was not revealed in court.
Her status in PTI remains unclear, but one of the conditions is to remain law-abiding.
Adams’ public safety assessment — used to help determine whether a defendant should be released under bail reform — recommended release with conditions.
But Judge Donna Taylor deviated from that recommendation, citing Adams’ “extensive” juvenile record, which included three cases of aggravated assault.

“The defendant’s criminality is continuing and escalating,” Taylor said in rendering her decision.
Adams also has a pending simple assault charge out of Pleasantville, and two outstanding warrants from Atlantic City, court records show.
She will now remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
