Atlantic City teen ordered held in shooting

An Atlantic City teen charged in a daylight shooting last month was ordered held in jail.

Ivan Tinitigan, 19, allegedly targeted the 20-year-old victim, who was shot near Richmond Avenue School on Jan. 13.

The shooting was captured on video and witnessed by a retired police officer, according to information released in court.

Tinitigan also has proven gang ties, according to information provided by the state.

The victim, whose name was not released, told his sister that Ivan was following them and "it was a problem," according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Tinitigan fled the scene and was arrested three weeks later, when he was found in the passenger seat of the same car he was seen driving the day of the shooting parked in the same area.

The 19-year-old Pleasantville man who was behind the wheel that day was also arrested, after fleeing into a store.

Eliu Mejia was found inside the store in the 3900 block of Ventnor Avenue. A handgun was found in the toilet tank of a small bathroom nearby, the affidavit states.

The public safety assessment, which helps determine whether a defendant should be held under bail reform, recommended Tinitigan not be released. Judge Nancy Ridgway agreed.

"His criminal behavior appears to be rapidly escalating," she said.

He also faces significant prison time "bolstered by a tremendous amount of evidence," she said, which increases the risk that he won't appear in court.

Tinitigan will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
