Damien Woody Torches Nick Sirianni for Being All in His Feelings

  • Eagles

ESPN's Damien Woody didn't mince words on "Get Up!" Monday morning when asked about Nick Sirianni's fourth-quarter antics, where he appeared to be jawing with fans at Lincoln Financial Field.

"Bro, that was clown behavior," Woody said. "Nick Sirianni looked like an absolute clown doing all of that. I mean, the fact that you're going to sit up there and argue with people who spend their hard-earned money to come watch you play. If you don't put out a good performance, guess what? They have every right to boo you.

"And you need to take that, because that's part of your job as a head coach," Woody continued. "You can't have it one way or another — it's an all-encompassing job."

Woody was also critical of Sirianni bringing his three kids to the postgame press conference, which some have interpreted as him trying to use his children to limit the amount of hard questions he was asked.

"And for you to sit there and then have your kids in the postgame [press conference] to kind of deflect from reporters trying to come at you, it's lame, it's weak, he's a clown ... it just looks ridiculous. Oh by the way, you barely beat the Cleveland Browns at home, so don't give me any of that."

Woody played 12 years as an offensive guard in the NFL for the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and New York Jets. The 46-year-old has been on ESPN since 2011, and doesn't have a reputation as someone who goes on rants just for a reaction. So his opinion carries some extra weight here.

Sirianni was caught by FOX's cameras appearing to shit talk some fans in the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field after the Eagles narrowly eked out a 20-16 win over Deshaun Watson and the lowly Browns.

After the game, Sirianni — with his three kids at the press conference with him, for whatever reason — just repeated post game that he was "excited to get the win."

Do you remember another NFL coach ever jawing with fans, particularly his home fans? What about after a win? This wasn't an impressive win, which makes Sirianni's behavior even stranger. But it is hard to win in the NFL, and the conversation Monday morning should be about how the 3-2 Eagles build off this win. Instead, it's about how immature the coach looked on the sideline. That seems not ideal.
