An Atlantic City teenager is charged with several counts of theft after the mayor reported fraudulent activity on his credit card.
The investigation began Oct. 6, after Mayor Marty Small reported the issue to police, Capt. Kevin Fair told BreakingAC.
A 17-year-old now has been "charged with various crimes that included theft and two counts each of credit card theft and theft of identity," Fair said.
The juvenile was issued a summons with court date set for Tuesday. Because he is a juvenile, the hearing is not open to the public.
While police did not name the suspect, sources have told BreakingAC it is the boyfriend of the mayor's daughter.
It was the teen's iPad that is said to have evidence of the abuse alleged against the mayor and his wife, Superintendent La'Quetta Small.
He is not being named due to his age.
The mayor was at the teenager's home last month, after police were called for a wellness check involving his daughter.
"I did what any responsible parent would do,” Small told BreakingAC at the time. “I’m a parent first and a mayor second.”
The mayor confirmed it was in response to a call that his daughter was in distress, although he would not detail how he was notified.
Now the teenage boy is facing charges sparked by a report made by the mayor.
"The charges are the charges," Small said Thursday. "I think it's very telling that their star witness would do this. That's all I can say right now but stay tuned for more."
