Atlantic City police say goodbye to three, promote five

  • Public Safety

The Atlantic City Police Department went through some big changes in the past week.

First, they said goodbye to three longtime officers, including two deputy chiefs who served for 29 years.

Bridget Pierce made history when she became the department's first female deputy chief in 2020.

Three years later, Stacy Herrerias — also a 29-year veteran — followed in 2023.

Sgt. Paul Aristizabal also said goodbye to the department. He at one point served as the public information officer for the police.

The city then celebrated Tuesday, as Andrew Leonard and Christian Garofalo were promoted to fill the vacated deputy chiefs positions, serving directly under Chief James Sarkos.

Frank Ingargiola was promoted to lieutenant, with Nicholas Berardis and Jeffrey Hannon promoted to sergeant.

Mayor Marty Small administered the oath of office to the group.

Public Safety Director Sean Riggin also spoke at the ceremony.
