Reports of "multiple gunshot sounds" coming from a vehicle in Linwood were likely the result of the car backfiring, police said.
Patrol officers responded to the area of New Road and Central Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Monday in front of Central Square.
Numerous bystanders and witnesses said the sounds came from a vehicle that was backfiring while heading south on New Road toward Somers Point, according to the report.
Police found no evidence indicating otherwise, and deemed no threat to the public.
The vehicle was not located.
