Sheila Oliver often talked about retiring to Atlantic City.
The lieutenant governor never got a chance to stop working.
Oliver, 71, died Aug. 1, 2023, after a sudden hospitalization days earlier.
But the pioneering politician who hailed from Essex County still will have a place in Atlantic City.
On Thursday, the city will offered a first look at the new courtyard named in her honor.
After more than a year of renovations, the area between City Hall and the Atlantic County office building at 1333 Atlantic Ave. has been transformed into Sheila Oliver Plaza.
"She supported Atlantic City even when some people in Atlantic City didn't support it," Mayor Marty Small previously said.
"Sheila was really intertwined in Atlantic City in a special way," Oliver's former Chief of Staff Terry Tucker said at the groundbreaking in March 2024.
Members of Oliver’s family will join the mayor and other officials for a ribbon-cutting at noon Thursday.
