Krissy Coffey was watching television with her daughter Thursday, when she heard what she thought was someone banging loudly on her door.
But when the Egg Harbor Township woman went to look, “and as soon as I opened the door, I saw a can spraying fire,” she recalled.
Coffey quickly closed the door and picked up her daughter, Maddie, to rush out the other way, ushering her two dogs with them.
It wasn’t until she got Maddie safely across the street that she realized Pugsley had been left behind. By then, the home at 1 Tudor St. was fully engulfed.
“Maddie was my number one priority,” she said.
A firefighter asked where she thought the missing dog might be. He was found hiding in the back room.
Township EMS revived the dog. Coffey said she saw them working on him, but because there was so much happening, she did not get names.
Pugsley was sent home from the vet Friday night. Unfortunately, the family no longer has a house to go home to.
“It’s a total loss, so they’ll be tearing it down,” Coffey said of the home she shared with her husband, Chris Barredo, and his brother, Stephen.
Both men were at work when the fire broke out.
A family member started a GoFundMe to help the family recover.
