A Vineland man released from prison last summer was arrested in Atlantic City after a license plate reader indicated he had active warrants.
Clarence Shambry, 44, was paroled June 13, after serving prison time for drugs and threats out of Camden County, state Department of Corrections records show.
He apparently incurred new drug charges in January and assault charges in April out of Camden that led to warrants, according to court records.
At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Atlantic City Officer John Bell responded to an alert from an automated license plate reader indicated the car's owner, Shambry, had active warrants for his arrest, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
Bell found the vehicle, leading to a stop.
The driver, 30-year-old Shanera Phillips of Vineland, also had an active warrant, Fair said.
Shambry was found with 650 bags of heroin on him, according to the report.
A search of the vehicle led to more than 201 grams of cocaine, 289 grams of marijuana, 161 grams of MDMA, 14 grams of unpackaged heroin and nine grams of Tramadol, along paraphernalia used in the possession and distribution of narcotics, and a wooden baseball bat with barbed wire covering it, Fair said.
Shambry and Phillips were charged with maintaining a drug-production facility, five counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, four counts of possession with intent to distribute, and single counts of conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and money laundering.
Shambry additionally was charged with being a certain person not to possess a weapon.
Both are in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending detention hearings.
