Man who impregnated EHT preteen sentenced to 20 years in prison

  • News
A registered sex offender was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl that resulted in her becoming pregnant. Joseph Anthony Caracciolo was known to the 12-year-old victim as Joe Crillo when he lured her into a sexual relationship, including taking her across state lines. But the then-48-year-old man was really named Caracciolo, and was a registered sex offender in the state of California. The Egg Harbor Township police were alerted to the crime after the girl became pregnant. He was arrested in New York after a determined manhunt led by township Detective Heather Stumpf that included the FBI, U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and members of the Innocence Lost Task Force. Caracciolo was already sentenced in March to 25 years in federal prison for taking the minor to the Poconos in Pennsylvania to engage in illegal sexual contact with her. He previously pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault in Atlantic County Superior Court and, on Friday, Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild sentenced him to 20 years in prison. He must serve at least 85 percent of that sentence — or 17 years — before the now-50-year-old man is eligible for parole. Upon his release, he will be subject to lifetime supervision under Megan's Law.
