Four more Atlantic County deaths attributed to COVID-19

  • Covid 19

Four residents of Atlantic County long-term care facilities are the latest deaths attributed to the coronavirus. They included an 82-year-old woman and 65-year-old man from Absecon, where the only facility is Preferred Care, formerly Absecon Manor. There was also a 68-year-old Egg Harbor Township man and 73-year-old man from Hammonton. Since both towns have more than one facility, it was not clear which ones they were. All four had pre-existing conditions that made them higher risk for complications from COVID-19, health officials said. There are 36 new cases, including 18 women ages 19 to 98. There was also an 11-year-old boy, with the oldest man 98.

There were eight new positives in Pleasantville, six in Atlantic City, and five each in Hammonton, and Galloway and Hamilton townships.

There were also three in Egg Harbor Township, and one each in Folsom, Linwood, Margate and Weymouth Township.

The total confirmed cases in the county are 1,059, with 198 listed as recovered. There have been 48 deaths.

The county already had tested nearly 700 residents, with 27.1 percent testing positive. The statewide rate has been more than 40 percent.

Atlantic County will have additional drive-thru testing dates for next Tuesday and Thursday, which are by appointment only and require symptoms and a doctor's prescription. They will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Those who had appointments for April 30, which was canceled, can come at the same time Monday.

Residents may make an appointment for testing online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.

As always, those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
